FAQ'S

How much does it cost to remodel a kitchen? You can spend as little as $5000 or more than $80,000 for cabinets and installation, depending upon the number of cabinets and features, wood species and finish. Other costs that should be included in your plans are counter tops, plumbing fixtures, kitchen appliances, flooring and often considerable electrical work for outlets and new kitchen lighting. Labor to install all these items must also be budgeted as well as building permits if required. As with most home projects, they can tend to expand as you get underway. Sometimes, architectural work is also undertaken to enlarge or substantially change the kitchen and breakfast areas.

What is the process and where do we begin? The first step is to make an appointment and visit our showroom to begin to refine your choices from some of the many levels of quality and types of construction and finishes that are available. The next step is normally for us to visit your home and take actual measurements of your kitchen space or review your architectural drawings if you are planning construction, so that we can design a kitchen that will maximize your use of space when it is finished. We will discuss costs, types of construction, wood species, finishes and countertop surfaces with you, showing you the weakness and strengths of each of these options. We next prepare a custom design layout for your home. Once we design and draw up a plan, the kitchen is priced out. When you are pleased with the design and costs, we will then be prepared to place the order with the cabinet fabricator. There is no warehouse where inventoried cabinets are stored. All our cabinets are built to the specifications for your desired application.  It generally takes between four to twelve weeks for the construction and delivery of the new kitchen cabinets to your home site. At that point the installation can get underway. If you wish to do your own installation or use your own contractor, we are pleased to work with you and complete a design and provide delivery of your cabinets. We can also provide the complete installation of your new kitchen, if that is your preference.

How long does it take to complete the project once the construction is underway? The removal of existing cabinets and installation of the new ones can generally be done in three to five days. More complicated kitchens will require several weeks to install. Final precise measurements for the countertops cannot be made until the cabinets supporting the countertops are installed. The fabrication of the tops generally take one week for laminate and up to four weeks for granite. Only then can the plumbing fixtures be installed and connected. Needless to say, the coordination with various tradesmen to do work other than the actual cabinet installation can require several days to several weeks as well.

Why should someone use the services of a kitchen designer rather than avail themselves to one of the large home improvement centers? Neither the home centers nor the kitchen designer actually construct the cabinets. Many cabinet companies sell to both entities. However, many of the cabinet companies do not sell to the large distribution outlets. Certainly there are quality kitchen design staffs at some of the large home centers and certainly there are some small-scaled kitchen designers who are not capable of doing excellent work. One of the main differences is that large home centers offer cabinets from just the cabinet companies which the company's national buyer has selected. Cabinets are just one of hundreds of home improvement items that they purchase and resell. At Colorado Kitchen Designs, we do not market refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers, flower pots, carpeting or window coverings. We do have the choice of the many cabinet fabricators. We represent specific cabinet companies, which we have selected based on their construction quality, their value and the integrity and high quality service that they offer to our customers. Since a new kitchen is a major investment, we have chosen companies who have long demonstrated a track record of standing behind their products and will resolve problems during both the construction phase as well as long-term after the installation is completed. We se every kitchen as a unique designs based on your size and shape of available space, decor preferences, cooking needs and budget. If you have special needs such as gourmet cooking, l wheelchair accessible cabinets, kosher kitchen or other specific needs we are experienced and eager to address these needs when we design your kitchen. We have considerable experience having personally designed and supervised the installation of hundreds of kitchens from start to finish.
